ALL IN THE FAMILY

Our ancestors and three generations of their offspring.

Also includes the Bos family tree (Harlingen-Amsterdam-Vlissingen-Chicago) and 14 separate pedigrees.

Onze voorouders en drie generaties van hun nakomelingen.

Bevat ook de Stamboom Bos (Harlingen-Amsterdam-Vlissingen-Chicago) en 14 apartstaande kwartierstaten (van aangehuwde tantes etc.).

Most of my ancestors lived in Greater Friesland (Fryslan, Groningen, East-Friesland) and Danelaw England (Lancs, Lincs, Yorks, Notts, Leics, Derbs).
Before abt 1700 some lived in Rouveen, Amersfoort, Horst? (stamvader Rost), Tiel, Borculo, Ommeren, or just across the Netherlands border.
I have no idea where the ancestors of my granddad’s grandmother Annie Blundell nee Burton came from.

This database contains:
  1. a few thousand found ancestors and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  2. the ancestors (no descendants beyond the odd sibling) of 13 persons not related to my parents.
  3. a couple of generations of Dutch-American families not related to me (with some connection to emigrated relatives).
  4. some Jewish families closely related to one distant relative of my grandmother murdered during the Holocaust.

I am grateful to my late cousin Shirley J. Medema - Bos (1932-2018) as well as to David Otto, who both helped with the American side of the Bos family tree.

The North Meols (Southport) data are mostly based on the work of Joyce Otterstrom (last updated on my side in Nov 2020).

Default for a christening, marriage or burial in the parish of North Meols is St. Cuthbert’s, Churchtown (oldest parish church).

Old place names in the former (then still larger) parish of North Meols:

Bank Field Lane = lane running between Churchtown and Crossens
Blowick = hamlet east of Little London, west of where The New and The Old Pool streams join, north of Meols Cop
Blowick Moss = east of the North End of Birkdale, south of The Trap and Town Lane
Blundell's Lane = lane running east from Bank Field Lane winding south towards Moss Lane
Butt's Lane  = part of the lane connecting The Trap & Town Lane to Lower Blowick
East Bank Lane = now East Bank Street running into Trap Lane (Southbank Road)
Hawes Side = along the dunes where Southport started; part is now Hawesside Street & Ashley Road
Little London = hamlet around The Anchor Inn (now The Blue Anchor pub) at the end of Tithebarne Lane/Road & Hart Street
Meols Cop = now Meols Cop Road, south of Blowick, east of Little London
Mill Lane (Birkdale) = lane connecting Snuttering Lane to North End and Birkdale
Mill Lane (Churchtown) = lane running north into Churchtown from Row Lane & Moss Lane
Moss Lane = lane continuing east from Row Lane
Mount Pleasant = now Manchester Road starting from Lord Street running towards Roe/Row Lane
Park Lane = lane running south from crossing of Mill Lane, Rowe Lane and Moss Lane
Pitts House = south of Moss Lane, west of Wyke Lane, east of The New Pool (stream)
Snuttering Lane = lane running South from The Trap towards Mill Lane & North End (going towards Birkdale),
perhaps starting from The Trap along the northern end of Cemetery Road
South Hawes (Hawes Houses) = small hamlet next to the dunes west of the South End of Birkdale
Southport = newer housing developments in the dunes to the west of Hawes Side
Straight Up Lane = lane continuing east of Moss Lane after junction with Wyke Lane
The Trap = hamlet between Trap Lane (now Southbank Road) & Town Lane, north of where is now Duke Street Cemetery
Trap Lane = now Southbank Road
Westward = lanes to the west of Marshside near the northernmost edge of the sand dunes
Wyke Lane = lane running south-east of Moss Lane towards Wyke Farm (just beyond The Old Pool)

Double cousin William Sutton (1752 - 1840) was owner of the Black Bull Inn (now Hesketh Arms) in Churchtown.
He started the first sea bathing lodge which he named the South Port Hotel.
It stood near what is now the crossing of Lord Street and Duke Street.
It was the very beginning of what would become Southport as a seaside bathing resort.
